Outboard wings for the Mitchell wing - U-2
Roger Olander
I'm curious about the possibility of acquiring matching outboard wings for the MW U-2. They would have to both be "built to the plans"!!! Mine have a fatal flaw and I'd like to get flying while I rebuild them.

Is it the same as B10? Not a flyer, just a collector. I know little to nothing about it. Where are you located? On Wed, Feb 19, 2020 at 04:58 PM, Roger Olander wrote: |

Sorry Paul,
I didn’t mean to appear to be ignoring you – Yes I have plans for the B-10 and I guess I would be willing to part with them for a token fee. My wing is the U2 Model which is a low wing – the B10 is a high wing. The B10 has the reputation of being a “hand full” to fly and I have been told that Mitchell designed the U2 to be a more docile aircraft. That being said, there are a lot of B10s out there that have been flown a lot of hours. The U2 seems to be a harder build and fewer of them seem to have been completed and flown.
You can find a few videos on You Tube – search for Mitchell wings or Mitchell Flying Wings, Mitchell B10, etc.
I’m in Western Colorado.
What do you mean that you are a collector – do you have a museum or something?
Roger

@Roger Olander, did you ever fix your U-2 outboard panels?
I bought a U-2 years ago that had its landing gear damaged in a hard landing during taxi and flight testing, but have not restored it. It has been outside under a tarp since. But it's free to anyone who wants some usable parts and is willing to pick them up in Iowa. |

Hi, I was aircraft engineer, specialist from 30 years of flying wing. I design, built and fly many experimental flying wing and aircraft.I just finished to built a new super mitchell wing, 3D computer design with CAO files for each rib and parts, folding wing for easy transport, etc... with new modern design and easy construction, airplane control and aerodynamic. The engine will be a electric engine from Geiger Engineering in Germany. Be careful : I have keeped the Naca 23012 airfoil, because the new airfoil use on the U2 is not suitable flying wing : can be very dangerous in some flying situations. If somebody want more infos, do not hesitate to contact me... Hi Elliott,
Yes I have fixed the outboard panels with the addition of a drooped leading edge. But I have some brakes, prop and engine issues so I haven’t done any flight testing yet.
I don’t think I’d be interested enough to make the trip out to Iowa but thanks for the information. I’ll keep it in mind if the flight testing doesn’t go well this spring.

Doesn't seem to be much going on here on this forum or am I not looking correctly? No museum but did just add 200 sqft to house for military and space collection. I just stumbled onto this project as I do most things. The price was right & home it went, only 600 miles away. I just dropped off a lower main cowl for an SCB2 Helldiver to the National WW2 Aviation Museum in Colorado Springs in October, now that was a trip. What would a token fee come to? Paul, Not much ever going on here the last 5 yrs I have been on it. Seems like you would flourish with an Instagram account, Facebook, or a You tube channel. Usually talk about Mitchel wings. Somebody needs something or a question. The last few days is the most activity in the last 24 mos.
